The rotating display concept sounds like a gimmick until you actually use the Echo Show 10 for video calls in a kitchen. The frustration of a fixed-display smart screen — needing to stand precisely in front of it to be framed in a call, or having to look sideways at a recipe as you move from the counter to the stove — disappears with face-following. The motor is quiet enough to not be intrusive, and the tracking is smooth rather than jerky.

The 13 MP camera with auto-framing is the best camera of any device in this comparison. Not only does it follow you around the room, but the auto-framing algorithm adjusts to keep you centred in frame as you move. For video calls with family, the experience is notably better than standing in front of a fixed-display device or holding a phone.

Beyond the rotating mechanism, the Echo Show 10 is essentially a more capable Echo Show 8 in terms of screen size and specification. The 10.1-inch 1080p display is bright and sharp. Fire TV is available for streaming. AZ2 Neural Edge provides local Alexa processing. The Zigbee hub is present. All the features available on the Echo Show 15 are present here, minus the wall-mounting format and the larger display.

The main argument against the Echo Show 10 is price-to-value: at $249, you pay the same price as the Echo Show 15, which has a significantly larger screen. The rotating display is the justification for the price — if the kitchen use case resonates with you, it is worth the premium over the Show 8. If you primarily want a counter display and do not move around much, the Show 5 or the Nest Hub 2nd Gen offer better value at lower prices.
